What does it mean; God will not put more on us than we can bear?

Just about every trouble or challenge that we face, which seems to have no solution, would always appear to be more than we can bear, particularly in the case of the lost of a love one.

Now, when reading the above topic, which is quoted by many so frequently, I have to wonder if those quoting it ever made the effort to consider who is it that they are holding responsible for giving them these load to bear. I have to assume that they have privately acknowledged that God is indeed in control and that he is sovereign in all matters be it good or bad and ultimately he’s managing what’s happening to them at that time, again be it good or bad.

Yet, we must still seek understand as to where this load is being placed by God on the human being, so that we can, understand how better to bear it. Now the truth is whatever load we are carrying, definitely we’re not carrying it physically. For example, the unexpected death of a love one; I am sure you are not physically carrying that deceased love one across your shoulders everyday, right? Therefore the load must be of a spiritual nature that has you in the depressed grieving state that seems impossible to shake off.

Now that we understand that our loads are carried by our spirits and not our physical being, even though our physical beings can show evidence of the carrying of that spiritual load. Let us see how God requires us to deal with it.

Whenever God addresses man it is always initiated by things that are spiritual, why you asked? Well let’s look back at creation as it relates to man’s make up. According to Genesis 2:7 it was only when God who is a spirit (John 4:24) breathed into the nostrils of this physical man that he made from the dust of the earth (which became man’s flesh) that he became a living soul. The word soul in this text comes from the Hebrew word “Nephesh” which means spirit.

With the above being said, it is quite understandable why our flesh would easily fail us and not be able to maintain a peace of mind when facing life’s difficulties and unchangeable circumstances, simply because our flesh cannot maintain what our spirits were made to sustain.

Someone right now is facing the greatest burden or trial of their life and their flesh has illegally taken authority over their spirit, by whispering to their spirit the following, “it isn’t worth it”, “You should commit suicide”, “Just give up”, “Life is meaningless”, “I wish I was never born”, “you must not forgive”. My friend these are all signs that your spirit is not in control in fact the weakest part of your human make us is, and that is your flesh.

The Galatians church during the time of the Apostle Paul was experiencing like problems (flesh ruling spirit) and what The Apostle Paul had to say to them of this all too common problem is about to give us clarity as to how we comprehend the term “God will not put more on us than we can bear. Paul said, that during life’s inevitable challenging days, be it the unexpected loss of a love one, the loss of a Job or even a dissolved relationship. In order not to respond or act upon what our flesh is trying to make a reality to us from a negative stand point, we must instead “Walk in the Spirit (the term walk in the Spirit is to literally live what the word of God is saying to you) and we SHALL NOT fulfill the lust or desire of our flesh.

So, isn’t it clear what we must do? So that we would not succumb to the negativity our flesh is dictating to our spirit? Therefore when God allows these seemingly unbearable burdens and loads to be placed on us, he never intended us 1) To bear it physically because physically we will always fail and it would always seem too great and 2) The more difficult it becomes he requires us to dig relentlessly in his word so that we would not fulfill what are weak flesh is requiring of us, which is ninety nine percent negative or against the will of God. Based on this understanding we must conclude that THE WORD OF GOD PACTICED, IS THE ONLY GENUINE ANTIDOTE TO OUR BURDENS AND LOADS!

In conclusion The Apostle Paul also gave the end results or fruits of what walking in the Spirit or the word of God would produce if we’re walking in it during our assigned times of heavy burdens. I mention the phrase assigned times because every human being will eventually have to walk this lonley road. Paul said, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law Galatians 5:22-23. My friend, with these results of walking in the spirit it is impossible not to be able to bear the load that you’ve been ordained to carry.
