Interestingly, God encouraged us with a wonderful way to recognize a prophet—through their frequent dreams and visions. He shared this comforting message with Moses, Aaron, and Miriam: "And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream" Numbers 12:6.
Many of you reading this are frequent dreamers, and surprisingly, most are not Christians. Your regular visions or dreams clearly indicate that you have the gift of prophecy, regardless of your faith. God uses this aspect of prophecy to communicate about the past, present, and future. The clarity and accuracy of God's messages depend on nurturing your human Spirit by hearing and reading His word. As Psalm 119:99-100 states, "I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes. I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts."
The word of God opens our spiritual eyes and understanding of the things of the spirit world. This explains why, when people try to interpret their dreams literally, their dreams often do not make sense. God reveals the mysteries of life through our dreams, including future events, by His Spirit! Therefore, if your approach to understanding your dreams isn't from a spiritual perspective, you will consistently miss the spiritual aspects of what is yet to be revealed physically — that is, what is displayed in your dream. Again, let's look at scripture to deepen our understanding. Scripture says, "Eyes have not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God has revealed them (spiritual things) unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God" 1 Corinthians 2:9-10.
Therefore, a person lacking spiritual understanding or insight is labeled a natural man. Still, spiritual things or things of the spirit world are nonsense to them because they are not spiritual in their approach and understanding of such things!. Again, the scriptures confirm this in the following passage: "But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned" 1 Corinthians 2:14.
Our dreams are challenging to understand, not because they are spiritual, but because there is a disconnect between our Spirit and the Spirit of God, which attempts to reveal things of the Spirit world through our dreams. Of course, our spirits are spiritually malnourished due to a lack of spiritual food, which only comes through God's word!
Sometimes, when I interpret a dream for someone, they give me a puzzled look. This look clearly shows they are trying to understand spiritual matters with a natural mindset. As a result, they often regard my interpretation as foolishness. Remember, the scripture clearly states that only those who are SPIRITUAL can truly discern these things! 1 Corinthians 2:15 sums it up: the spiritual person judges all things, yet no one (natural) can judge him. In other words, the spiritual person evaluates everything from a spiritual perspective, so their judgment will always be accurate.
Once again, God is speaking to many of you through the consistency of your dreams. However, because of your focus on what is visible or relates only to your five senses, you tend to dismiss the unseen (the spiritual world). Scriptures warn us about this: "While we look not at the things which are seen (our natural world), but at the things which are not seen (the spiritual world): for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal" 2 Corinthians 4:18.
I advise you to understand your dreams and visions, and to immerse yourself in reading the Word of God. Start feeding your spirit with sound teachings from the scriptures. I promise you, and I speak from experience, that interpreting your dreams will become almost automatic whenever you have them.
For God speaks once, even twice, but people do not notice it. Whether in a dream or in night vision, when deep sleep covers them and they rest on their beds, He opens their ears and seals their understanding (Job 33:14-16).
