One of the most infuriating aspects of life is dealing with people who are steadfastly committed to lying. These people have no regard for the truth and eagerly seize every opportunity to deceive. This behavior is not only unacceptable but also damaging, undermining the very fabric of trust in our relationships and society.I know many individuals who struggle with this seemingly incurable condition, and it can be incredibly difficult for them. I've come to understand that compulsive, chronic, pathological liars often don’t genuinely want to deceive others. In fact, there are moments when they tell a lie and later question their actions, feeling a mix of confusion and regret. It is almost as if someone or something is controlling them at those moments of untruth.
I understand that this may seem weird, but I'd like to clarify. Lying is not merely an act; it can actually be a defining personality trait. However, compulsive, chronic, and pathological liars are profoundly influenced by what can be described as a "lying spirit," which they unwittingly host. In truth, those controlled by this spirit become its slaves, often without even realizing the extent of its influence.
It’s crucial to understand this concept, as you may find yourself spending an inordinate amount of time and energy fighting against a person, rather than addressing the underlying spirit that significantly influences their behavior. Unfortunately, many individuals overlook this insight because they are unaware of the spiritual forces at work behind someone's actions. For instance, those of you who have dealt with liars in your life may relate to the frustration of confronting the individual while missing the more profound, intangible influences that drive their deceitful behavior. This awareness can transform your perspective and interactions. As always, let us turn to Scripture to provide a foundation for this understanding and illuminate the spiritual truths involved in our relationships.
"21 And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the Lord, and said, I will persuade him.
22 And the Lord said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and also prevail: go forth and do so.
23 Now, therefore, behold, the Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the Lord hath spoken evil concerning thee" 1 Kings 22:21-23.
Lying is not merely a minor or superficial issue; it is a significant concern that can profoundly affect relationships and communication. This misconception is precisely what the enemy aims to instill in you, as it fosters a constant division between you and the individual who has succumbed to dishonesty. When someone lies, it is often not just a matter of choice but rather an indication that they are under the influence of a deceptive spirit. Lying spirits exert an overwhelming stronghold over a person, ensnaring them in a cycle of untruthfulness and manipulation. Understanding this dynamic is crucial in addressing the behavior, as it reveals the deeper spiritual struggle at play, rather than dismissing it as a simple character flaw. By recognizing this, you can approach the situation from a spiritual perspective and seek to help the individual break free from the influence of this lying spirit.
Now that we have identified the spirit that is operating behind this person, we must change our mindset and approach with conviction. A lying spirit is clearly manipulating this individual, and we must take decisive action. Prayer is essential, and we must focus our efforts accordingly.
Instead of directing our prayers against the person, we need to target the spirit that has a stronghold over them. We must initially, spiritually bind the lying spirit and command it to leave this person indefinitely in the name of Jesus Christ. We cannot afford to engage with or entertain this spirit—or the individual—by participating in pointless arguments about their lies and conflicts.
We must recognize that we are confronting a spiritual battle, not merely a personal conflict. We must act with clarity and a spiritual understanding so that we do not become caught in the web of deceit by this lying spirit.
Interestingly, the Bible provides a straightforward solution to this ongoing issue. When we talk about a stronghold, we refer to a firmly established, locked-in mindset. A stronghold causes a person to operate on autopilot, making choices that override their own will and allowing that stronghold to take control of their decisions. It is important to note that evil spirits primarily create strongholds.
Scripture offers insights into strongholds and the weapons we have against them. As stated in 2 Corinthians 10:4, "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds." The ISV Bible expresses it this way: "For the weapons of our warfare are not those of the world. Instead, it is the power of God, which is the word of God, to demolish fortresses."
With this in mind, Scripture advises that to free ourselves or others from these stubborn evils, the Word of God must be our ultimate weapon.
"For the word of God is alive, powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword. It pierces and divides between soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and discerns the thoughts and intentions of the heart." - Hebrews 4:12
The essential takeaway from this Scripture regarding the lying spirit and any other negative influence is clear: the word of God has the power to separate the soul from the spirit. Our souls encompass our minds, wills, intellects, and emotions, which are often where strongholds take root. Spirits, in contrast, are invisible entities that seek to manipulate our souls.
This Scripture makes it undeniable that, through the application of the word of God, we can effectively pierce and remove the lying spirit from our souls. It’s time to wield this powerful tool and reclaim your spiritual well-being.
In conclusion, we must remember that this entire process is spiritual. Beyond simply verbalizing the word of God, we need to engage in significant actions such as prayer, fasting, and uniting with others in prayer to effectively disable this spirit indefinitely. I hope this insight encourages you to appreciate the hidden spiritual knowledge in Scripture, available to anyone willing to take the time to read and apply it. Once again, as stated in Proverbs 11:9b, "It is through knowledge that the righteous are delivered."
